We are a church that believes in the power of the many manifestations of God. The Trinity is our foundation, and the Spirit who lives in us and dwells with us also shows us the many different images of the Divine, which are available to those who might never read the Gospel. You, yes you, are made in the image and likeness of God. So let's live like it!
We believe in the illimitable creativity of God. Our members bring their race, gender, sexuality, socio-economic position, and ability into the sanctuary of grace as redeemed as God has created them. In other words, the straight white male, who Jesus lovingly calls to follow Him, is joined by lesbian black corporate executives and Asian gender-nonconforming lovers of God.
We believe that it is not good enough to read the Bible or to pray or even to come to church every Sunday. God doesn't care about any of that. Seriously. When Jesus says "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life," it is not to communicate the false notion that no one can get to heaven if they don't believe in Jesus. Rather, Jesus is commanding us to live a life like His.
My identities include the following adjectives: Spirit-filled, pansexual, biracial, musical, intellectually curious, athletic, 6'7", and dog-lover. How do you identify? My theological education comes from Pacific School of Religion (Doctor of Ministry), Hartford Seminary (MDiv/MA), and Meadville-Lombard at the University of Chicago Divinity School (MAR). Also, I have completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education, two years of Spiritual Direction training, and am affiliated with the Alliance of Baptists.
The Church Planting Intern is a part-time, non-stipendiary staff member, working 10-20 hours per week, depending upon requirements of the theological institution of which the Intern is a part, or, in the event the Intern is a graduate of a theological institution and is pursuing this internship solely for ordination purposes, 20 hours per week. The candidate should possess a sense of call to either pastoral ministry to and with multicultural seekers or church planting. The candidate should also enthusiastically celebrate the LGBTQ+ community of faith without reservation.
During the period before our official launch, The Intersectional Church uses guest musicians who lead us in high-energy praise and worship music to help us connect in devotion to the Christ who calls out to the leper, the tax-collecter, and the stinky shepherd to follow Him.
